‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

End Times

This verse comes near the end of Revelation when the apostle John describes the glorious new creation God will establish. After evil and sin are finally defeated and judged, God will usher in the new heavens and new earth for eternity.

John provides a stunning glimpse of this future paradise by declaring that God “will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” All the grief, sorrow, and anguish that existed in the fallen world will cease to exist. God Himself will tenderly comfort His people and remove any lingering sadness or pain.

John also writes “there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain.” In this perfect new creation, the curse of physical death from the fall of Genesis will be no more. There will be no cause for mourning or sadness since death and sin will be abolished. The struggles and heartaches of this life will disappear.

Finally, John explains that “the old order of things has passed away.” The sin-corrupted world with its brokenness, evil, suffering, and pain will have forever passed. The new creation will be free from any of the effects of the curse or anything tainted by sin. God will entirely remake and redeem His creation for eternity.

Revelation 21 beautifully depicts the hope all believers have in Christ and the future He is preparing for them. While this present world is full of sorrow, injustice, tears, and death, these grim realities will cease in the glorious new heavens and earth when God dwells with His people forever. What an amazing promise and hope!
