My Favorite Bible Verses about Jesus & What They Mean to Me
This is a short article about my favorite Bible Verses that reference Jesus. My connection with Jesus is my life’s foundation and my only real path to happiness. My life always seems easier and less stressful when my Jesus meter is full. For me, reading scripture is the best way to satisfy my desire to be close to Jesus.
I used the New International Version for the Bible Verses in this article. Many people think the NIV is the easiest version of the Bible to understand. You can look up these Bible Verses for yourself in your preferred version.
John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
This famous verse summarizes the gospel message. God gave His only Son, Jesus, as a sacrifice so that anyone who believes in Him can have everlasting life.
John 14:6 – “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'”
Jesus is the only way to have a relationship with God the Father and gain eternal life. He is the embodiment of truth and the source of life itself. This Bible Verse is very important to me as a Christian because it leaves no room for doubt about the path to heaven.
Philippians 2:5-8 – “In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!”
This passage highlights Jesus’ divinity as well as His incredible humility in becoming human and dying for humanity’s sins.
1 Peter 2:24 – “He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.”
This verse explains how Jesus’ death satisfied the debt of death that we owed God. He took the punishment for sins Himself so believers could be forgiven and healed.
Revelation 1:8 – “‘I am the Alpha and the Omega,’ says the Lord God, ‘who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.'”
One of many times Jesus claims to be the eternal, all-powerful God in this verse from Revelation.
John 1:1,14 – “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
These verses tell us that Jesus, referred to as “the Word,” has always existed and is Himself God. Yet He also took on human form and lived among people.
Colossians 1:15-20 – “The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.”
This passage affirms Jesus’ divinity and preexistence, stating that all things were created by Him and for Him. He is the sustainer of all creation. It reminds me that Jesus is God and the importance behind that.
John 8:58 – “‘Very truly I tell you,’ Jesus answered, ‘before Abraham was born, I am!'”
By applying the sacred name “I AM” to Himself, Jesus was confirmed to be the eternal God who revealed Himself to Moses in Exodus 3:14.
John 11:25-26 – “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.'”
I love this Bible Verse because it shows how Jesus has power over death and the ability to grant eternal resurrection life to those who put their faith in Him.
Matthew 28:18 – “Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.'”
After His resurrection, Jesus declared that He has complete sovereign authority over everything.
Matthew 1:21 – “She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
This Bible Verse tells us that the son of the Virgin Mary is the Messiah promised to us in the Old Testament.
I hope you enjoyed reading these Bible Verses. Nothing fills my spirit more than thinking about Jesus and what he means to me. Reading the Bible always has a way of putting my life into perspective and it reminds me what is really important.
