Helpful Bible Verses When You’re Worried: Finding Calm in God’s Word

Don't worry God has you

Do you ever get stuck worrying a lot about different things? Maybe money problems, the future, or hard situations you can’t control. If so, don’t feel alone because God’s Word is filled with encouraging truth to help ease an anxious mind.

As someone who struggles with feeling worried at times too, I’ve found that reading certain Bible verses really helps calm me down. When those troubling “what if” thoughts start spinning, these are some of the verses I go back to over and over:

“Don’t worry about anything. Instead, tell God about everything that is worrying you. Pray and ask for God’s help. And His peace, which is so great we can’t understand it, will keep your hearts and minds quiet and at rest.” (Philippians 4:6-7) This reminds us we don’t have to keep worries bottled up inside. We can openly share every concern with God and when we do, His unexplainable peace will guard our minds and hearts.

“When I was very worried, you comforted me and made me happy.” (Psalm 94:19) God’s comforting presence actively replaces our anxieties with real joy and hope, even in hard times.

“So don’t worry about having enough food or clothes. Your Father in heaven knows you need these things.” (Matthew 6:31-32) Jesus reminds us our Father is aware of our basic needs for food, shelter, and clothing so we don’t have to obsess about those worries when God is caring for us.

“I leave you peace. My own peace I give you. I don’t give peace in the way the world does. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” (John 14:27) Jesus offers a special peace that rises above our circumstances and quiets all fears.

“Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will support you. He will never let good people be shaken.” (Psalm 55:22) God’s got you now and forever. What troubles could ever shake you when the Sustainer of all things is upholding you? You can have courage He’s protecting you.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear…Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?” (Matthew 6:25-27) Jesus reminds us that worrying is futile and cannot add value or extend our lives. We’re better off trusting God for our daily provisions.

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:6-7) We can give our worries to God because He cares for us deeply and is mighty to lift us up at just the right time.

“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” (Psalm 56:3) This simple verse shows the antidote to fear is placing our trust in God’s protective care.

“You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, whose thoughts are fixed on you!” (Isaiah 26:3) Those who set their minds fully on the Lord can experience His abundant peace.

“Tell everyone who is discouraged, ‘Be strong and don’t be afraid! God is coming to your rescue…'” (Isaiah 35:4) We can take heart – God Himself is coming to rescue His discouraged and worried people.

The next time worries start piling up, don’t try to tough it out alone. Read through these comforting verses. Let God’s promises of taking care of you, protecting you, and giving you peace sink in deeply. His powerful words can ease an anxious heart and remind you of His everlasting love and care for you.
