Hebrews 4:16

Hebrews 4:16
King James Version

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

King James Version
New International Version

Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

New International Version

In this bold exhortation, the author of Hebrews issues a rousing call for believers to confidently approach the very throne of grace in heaven. These words not only extend an invitation but inspire courage to come near to the sovereign majesty of God Himself.

The metaphorical image of God’s “throne of grace” is both comforting and compelling. While thrones represent supreme power and authority, this One belongs to grace. It is not a harsh judgement seat but a place where abundant favor and pardon are bestowed.

God’s gracious character and His merciful actions toward sinners are in view. This assurance allows believers to approach such an exalted throne with confidence rather than cringing fear. No need exists to shrink back, for grace will be extended.

Furthermore, this passage promises two remarkable provisions available at this throne, mercy and grace itself. Mercy speaks of God’s compassion toward the miserable and undeserving. Despite spiritual poverty and wretchedness, believers receive kindness rather than what they rightly deserve.

And from this same throne, believers also “find grace to help in time of need.” Grace is the unmerited favor and power that equips and enables. No challenge or deficiency exists that cannot be met with God’s all-sufficient grace bestowed in desperate moments.

What a stunning privilege and assurance believers possess. Though weak and imperfect, they can enter the very presence of the sovereign King and find all the spiritual resources needed. At His throne, pardon and power are dispensed in abundance to those who approach humbly yet boldly.

These words call believers to live out their faith with courageous confidence. There is no need to hesitate or cower in shame and guilt. The throne remains forever open for those in Christ to draw near. Abundant help awaits in their hour of want and weakness.

In a world of insecurities, Hebrews 4:16 is a passage of unshakeable hope. No difficult situation or personal struggle is too overwhelming when access to the well of grace remains. This empowers believers to live victoriously as they are invited time and again to approach the wellspring of mercy and grace.
